CO2

CO2

The Fortress Diagnostics Bicarbonate (CO2)  assay is intended for the quantitative determination of CO2 from serum. Measurement of total CO2 as part of an electrolyte profile is useful mainly in evaluation of HCO3 concentration in assessment of acid-base disorders such as respiratory acidosis and metabolic alkalosis. Increased blood C02 (hypercapnia) causes respiratory acidosis, CO2 rises with decreased alvedar ventilation due to decrease of the lungs or bronchial tree, or breathing C02 enriched air. Depression of the overall lung capacity by certain drugs may lead to retention of C02.
