Fortress Neonatal Grouping (Blood Grouping Gel Cards)

Fortress Neonatal Grouping (Blood Grouping Gel Cards)

This test allows the detection of ABO, Rh D, Rh DVI and Direct Coombs test in newborns, in gel technique.

A and B antigens are detected in direct agglutination tests with anti-A and anti-B reagents. ABO reagents frequently produce weaker reactions with the RBCs of newborns than with RBCs from adults. Weaker reactions are encountered because A and B antigens are not fully developed at birth.
The adult’s serum contains antibodies A and B antigens. But these antibodies appear after 4-6 months of birth. Therefore reverse grouping cannot be done on newborn samples.
The determination of Rh D is defined by the presence or absence of the D antigen in the red blood cells. The determination of the Rh D status of the newborn’s blood group is important if the mother is Rh D negative. The direct Coombs test is used to detect antibodies that are already bound to the surface of red blood cells.
